Guwahati: Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde on Wednesday donated Rs 51 lakh to the chief minister’s relief fund.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma said, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Shiv Sena MLAs led by Shri Eknath Shinde ji for contributing ₹51 lakh to CM Relief Fund.”

“The contribution shall go a long way in reaching out to the flood victims and ensuring relief in flood-affected areas of our State,” added CM Sarma.

It may be mentioned that the flood situation in Assam turned grim on Tuesday with five more people lost their lives, taking the death toll to 139.

On Tuesday, three people died in the Cachar district, and one each from Dhubri and Morigaon, while two persons were reported missing in the Cachar and one in Chirang districts, as per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

According to officials, over 24 lakh people have got affected in 28 districts of Assam till Tuesday.

On the other hand, after waiting in the wings for nearly eight days amid the political drama fuelled by Shiv Sena Minister Eknath Shinde’s rebellion, the rebel MLAs are likely to return back to Mumbai by Wednesday evening.

The rebel MLAs visited the historical Kamakhya temple in the morning hours to offer prayers in the morning hours.

Notably, the Shinde group has been camping at Hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati since June 21, 2022.
