Guwahati: In view of the loss of both railway and road connectivity due to the heavy flood and landslide in both Assam and Meghalaya, neighbouring states of Tripura and Mizoram have started rationing petroleum products.

While landslides triggered by heavy rains caused massive damaging road connectivity via National Highway, railway connectivity has been totally snapped between Assam’s Brahmaputra valley with Barak and neighbouring states.

Authorities have already been making all efforts to bring essentials, especially edible commodities like rice and wheat, using national highways via Assam.

Keeping the situation in view, authorities in Tripura has promulgated restrictions on purchase of fuel. As per a fresh government order, now two-wheeler owners can only get fuel worth Rs 200 in a day, while for three-wheeler owners, it has been capped at Rs 300.

Owners of four-wheelers were allowed to buy fuel for up to Rs 1,000 daily.

On Monday, Mizoram’s food, civil supplies and consumer department also told pump owners to ration petrol till further orders. Following the order, long queues were reportedly seen at fuel stations.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has already suspended train services to Tripura, south Assam, Manipur, and Mizoram in the wake of significant landslides between Maibong and Bandarkhal in Assam till May 25.
