Assam: Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi’s mother Shanti Gogoi passes away at 86
Guwahati: Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi’s mother Shanti Gogoi passed away in the wee hours of Friday at a private hospital in New Delhi. She was 86.
Reportedly, she was receiving treatment for eye-related issues in Delhi and also underwent an operation recently.
Her mortal remains will be brought back to Dirbugarh by flight later in the day.
Shanti Gogoi was the wife of former Assam Chief Minister Keshab Chandra Gogoi whose ancestry can be traced back to the royal family of Tai-Ahom Chao Pha Purandar Singha who ruled Assam during the golden years of Ahom rule.
Shanti Gogoi was a well-known social worker and the founding president of Socio Educational Welfare Association (SEWA), an NGO based in Dibrugarh. She initiated and formed the NGO in 2000, two years after her husband’s death.
She authored several books and articles, and also released her autobiography Huworonir Rongin Paat in September 2018.
