Guwahati: Ex-MLA Naren Sonowal, from Naharkatia Assembly constituency in Dibrugarh, was apprehended for allegedly taking part in gambling activities on Thursday.

The arrest was made during an operation conducted in the city’s suburb of Boiragimoth area by Dibrugarh police

Along with Sonowal, the police also arrested six individuals identified as Mukul Ghosh, Mehroz Ahmed, Dipendra Dutta, Ritwik Baruah, Abdul Rashid, and Dipak Ranjan.

Notably a case has been registered against the arrested individuals.

Further investigation is underway.

Sonowal was an MLA from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) party, the richest candidate who was elected in 2016 from Naharkatia Assembly constituency.
