Guwahati: At least four people were killed and several others injured due to road accidents in separate road accidents in different parts of Assam, amidst Saraswati puja festivities and the 74th Republic Day celebrations. 

On Thursday, two school girls were killed and five others sustained grievous injuries on the GTB road in Dhubri town.

As per sources, the vehicle in which the victims were traveling collided with a truck, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

The accident occurred when the vehicle was en route to the Gauripur area.

Following the incident, victims persons were immediately taken to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

However, the deceased was identified as Nirmali Rai (16) and Shivangi Rai (14), and the injured individuals were identified as Riyan Hussain, Jahidul Haque, Riya Saha, Jennifer Hussain, and Moidul Islam.

In another incident, two bikers were killed and one person injured at Khumtai in the Golaghat district.

The sources said, both the bikers collided head-on with each other on the national highway near Kamar Gaon, killing them on the spot. 

The deceased youths have been identified as Hemanta Baruah and Rahul Bawori. 

One more person was critically injured in the accident and rushed to a nearby medical centre for treatment.
