Guwahati: Amidst the outrage over the alleged rape murder of a Dalit girl in Hathras, a 22-year-old woman from Assam was allegedly raped in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu.

The victim hailed from Darrang district in Assam and was currently residing in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

According to reports, the woman approached a man named Rajeshkumar from Palladam, for employment when he asked her to meet him at his residence and also promised her a job.

Based on assurance, the victim travelled to Palladam to meet Rajeshkumar at his residence on September 28. After the meeting ended in the evening, he asked his younger brother Raju (21), to drop the woman in his two-wheeler to the bus stop.

Raju, then, under the pretence of dropping her at the bus stop, took her to a deserted plot where two of his acquaintances Kavinkumar (23), Anbu (21) and two other allegedly raped her and left her at spot.

Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered at the Palladam All Women Police station on September 29 against the six accused under sections 147 (Punishment for rioting), 376 D (Gang rape), 384 (Punishment for extortion) and 109 (Punishment of abetment if the act abetted is committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) of the Indian Penal Code. The All Women Police in Tamil Nadu arrested Raju, Kavinkumar and Anbu a day later on September 30 and remanded them in judicial custody.

In a recent development, two more accused were arrested who were absconding ever since the alleged rape.

Accused Rajkumar (23) and Damodaran (22) were nabbed by the police on wee hours of Saturday, sources revealed.
