Guwahati: Google has rewarded Rony Das, a Bongaigaon born cyber security expert with $5000 USD for reporting a bug in the Android foreground services which could be exploited by someone to hack into user data.

Das said that he encountered with the technical flaw while creating software and was trying to solve the issue which led him to the discovery of this particular vulnerability.

In May 2021, he reported it to Google and been exchanging information. After almost six months, Google rewarded him $5000 USD for reporting the bug.

An email from Google Android Security Team to Das said that the global giant Google would like to offer him a discretionary reward of $5000, a one-time exception to our normal procedures as a thank you for the high-quality submission and follow up information provided by him.

According to Das, the vulnerability could run background processes in Android without being detected by users.
