Guwahati: The tourism department of Assam has taken initiatives to promote local tourism in Assam for the next tourism year.
Chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), Jayanta Malla Barauh said, “In order to facilitate the stake holders of the tourism department, we have taken an initiative to promote local tourism. In this initiative, we will promote inter-district tourism among the people of the state.”
He added that through this initiative, people from different districts of Assam will be encouraged to travel to various places in the state that are known as tourism spots. Further tourism spots will also be developed through this initiative.
He further added that with this step the tour operators, agencies and other people engaged in the industry will also be kept engaged with their business even if inter-state tourist do not visit Assam due to the pandemic.
Baruah further stated that the Kamakhya Temple will remain shut even during the Ambubachi Mela. However, the required basic rituals will be done but no visitors from outside will be allowed.
