Guwahati: Amid the flood situation in Assam’s Nagaon district remains dire, the Deputy Commissioner Nisarg Hivare on Monday stated that the state government has been supplying relief materials to the affected areas, thus no one has to pay anything
“The government is paying for relief material. Nobody has to make a payment. We received a complaint in this regard and will take action,” said Hivare.
“We have sent three-day relief materials to the affected people and currently getting ready to ship relief materials for five days. No one has to pay anything, it’s free,” he added.
Meanwhile, flood situation in the state continued to improve gradually with no downpour in most of the areas of the region on Monday.
However, the death toll seemed to be unstopping with eight more people including two children killed in the flood water during the last 24 hours.
A total of 22 districts- Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri remained flood affected.
Over 1.9 lakh people were still taking shelter in relief camps across the affected districts.
