Guwahati: Assam Government is mulling over reducing the number of days of summer vacation from one month to 25 days from next year.

State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Friday said the state government’s education department is contemplating a final decision in this regard.

Speaking about it further, the minister said, “Students’ should focus on education, not holiday. If a student gives more priority to his/her studies, then there will be growth and development in the field of education. Moreover, several educational institutions have already restricted summer break to 25 days instead of one month, so the department is also thinking over the same as education is our first priority.”

Meanwhile, minister Pegu said it has decided to suspend the Gunotsav programme in nine districts in view of the devastating floods in the state.

It may be mentioned that the Gunotsav is a state government initiative that focuses mainly on the assessment of learning outcomes of children for identifying the learning gaps and subsequently designing remedial measures for improvement.
