Assam Govt to ascertain vaccination status of frontline govt servants before releasing salary

Many frontline government servants including contractual and fixed pay, have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine, irrespective of their registration in the COWIN portal

Guwahati: The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in its latest order on Wednesday directed all the departmental heads to ascertain the vaccination status of all the frontline government servants before releasing the monthly salary/ remuneration from the current month onwards.

In an order undersigned by Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua stated that it has been observed that many frontline government servants including contractual and fixed pay, have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine, irrespective of their registration in the COWIN portal.

Whereas the health department of the Government of Assam has also arranged for large scale vaccination of all eligible age groups, both on and offline, certain frontline government servants had failed to get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19.

The non-vaccination of such frontline government servants may give rise to the possibility of further spread of the virus which, in turn, may endanger the lives of common citizens, especially the vulnerable groups like an infant, pregnant women etc, thus, the SDMA has mandatorily directed all the departmental heads to ascertain their vaccination status, the order claimed.
