GUWAHATI: The Assam government appointed 5,190 lower and upper primary teachers under the department of elementary education who had cleared the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) on Friday.
The chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially handed over the appointment letters to the selected candidates at a program at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
The chief minister said, “The teachers have to build our future generation smart, educated and equipped so that they can avail all the scope for improving the state in the coming days. Teachers have great responsibility.”
Sarma said that Sonowal government has made a target to give at least 50000 appointments this year.
“We are trying to achieve the target by February. We are appointing 10000 more teachers in September,” Sarma said.
The minister added that during his tenure as the education minister of the state, more than 1.5 lakh teachers have been appointed from 2011.
The appointment of high school teachers will begin in September, he said.
