Assam: Heroin Worth Rs 8 Crore Seized In Karbi Anglong; Two Held

Guwahati: Heroin worth nearly Rs 8 crore was seized and two persons were arrested in this connection in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Sunday.

The two arrested persons have been identified as Soleman Thuyer and Simaan Thuyer.

Based on specific information, the police intercepted a vehicle at Khatkhati in the Bokajan area of the district.

During the search operation, as many as 75 boxes containing 966 grams of heroin were seized.

According to sources, the duo had transported the illicit drugs from Dimapur.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed against the duo under the NDPS Act and further investigation is on.

Taking to the Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “In an early morning operation today in Karbi Anglong, @assampolice intercepted a car bearing no WB 74 P 4456 and seized 75 boxes containing 966 gram Heroin hidden inside it. Two accused were apprehended.”

However, on Saturday, the Assam Police destroyed a huge quantity of drugs worth over Rs 100 crore have been destroyed as a part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
