Guwahati: At least 22 persons have been detained in various parts of the state in connection to the leakage of the question paper of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination of General Science subject, the official said on Tuesday.
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) G.P. Singh informed that the arrests have been made in Guwahati, North Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sadiya, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
Taking to Twitter, G.P. Singh wrote, “Reference paper leakage case of General Science (C3) of HSLC examination being conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Assam – 22 persons have been detained at/from Guwahati, North Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sadiya, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.”
“Further lawful action as mandated by law is being taken against them. We remain committed to unearth the network of people involved in the leakage of the question paper and the conspirators”, he added.

Earlier, Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested three persons for their involvement in the paper leak and were identified as Jyotirekha Borgohain and Herambo Kumar Das, including driver Bindeshwar Tumung. All three are employees of the Bhauri Devi Sarawgi High School.
The CID also summoned SEBA Examination Controller Nayan Jyoti Sarma and Chief Controller Jimli Kakoty Saikia.
On Sunday, the Board of Secondary Education in Assam (SEBA) cancelled the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination of the General Science subject which was scheduled for March 13 in view of media reports of leakage of the question paper.
Following the announcement of the cancellation of the examination by the board on Sunday night, Pegu received criticism from both the students and opposition parties.
Several parties and student’s organizations have burnt the effigy of education minister Ranoj Pegu demanding his resignation as education minister.
Meanwhile, on Monday, SEBA announced a fresh date of the cancelled examination of General Science scheduled on March 13 will be held on March 30, 2023.
The board also released the date of the English examination, which was cancelled in JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram under Cachar district, which will be held on March 28.
