Guwahati: A human trafficking racket was busted in Hatigaon area of Guwahati where police rescued two women from Rajasthan.
Hatigaon Police arrested the accused who were involved in the racket. They were identified as Lalita Devi (32), Jonda Ram Gujjar (42) and Sahidul Haque.
Lalita and Jonda Ram hail from Rajasthan whereas Sahidul is from Chaygaon, Assam. Presently, the trio is under judicial custody.
The situation came into light, when one of the victim’s families lodged a missing complaint at the Hatigaon Police station in September last year. Tracking her phone, a team of police then went to Rajasthan on January 27 to rescue the victim.
Along with the victim, the police were able to rescue another woman and arrested two accused – Lalita and Jonda Ram Gujjar.
Reportedly, the accused trio lured the victim on the pretext of marriage and jobs and then handed them over to Lalita Devi. Later, Devi sold the woman to Jonda Ram Gujjar for a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh each.
