Guwahati: The Assam government on Saturday imposed a temporary ban on the entry of poultry and pigs in the state from other states following the outbreak of Avian Influenza and African Swine Fever in some states of the country.
“The step has been taken to prevent the spread of Avian Influenza and African Swine Fever in poultry and pigs in the state and other North Eastern states”, said Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora.
“The state government has imposed a temporary ban on entry of poultry and pigs from outside the state to Assam as a precaution due to the outbreak of avian influenza and african swine fever through the western border of the state. It is an effort to stop the disease from spreading to Assam and other North Eastern states”, Bora added.

Meanwhile, Bora urged Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department officials and associations to take measures to prevent price rise of pork and chicken meat as transportation of pig and poultry to Assam has been banned.
