Assam introduces ‘Transgender’ category for APSC exam; 42 aspirants applies

42 aspirants of the transgender community of Assam have filled the form this year, applying for the posts of ACS junior grade and other allied services.

Guwahati: The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has taken a revolutionary and progressive step by introducing the ‘Transgender’ option in the gender category of the civil service examination forms.

Notably, 42 aspirants of the transgender community of Assam have filled the form this year, applying for the posts of ACS junior grade and other allied services.

Assam becomes the first state in the country to introduce the ‘transgender’ option in civil service examination form. The separate category was introduced in the recently conducted application procedure of the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examinations to be held in 2021.

As per the 2011 census, Assam has a transgender population of 11,374 with 53.69 % literacy rate.
