Guwahati: Japanese Encephalitis reported three more lives in Assam on Saturday, taking the death toll to 63 since July 1.

All three deaths were reported in the Nagaon district in the past 24 hours.

At least 12 new cases have been detected in the state, officials said.

Out of these 12, two new cases each were reported from the Dibrugarh and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, one case each recorded from Chirang, Goalpara, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, Tinsukia, Udalguri, and Southern Assam’s Cachar district. 

With this, around 347 cases of JE have been detected in the state since July 1, 2022, the report stated.

All district administrations and health officials have been instructed to take the appropriate measures to combat the viral illness by the state Health Department.

The NHM has also issued a standard operating procedure and guidelines to tackle the situation arising with the outbreak and health workers have been conducting a massive awareness campaign against the disease.
