Guwahati: In a horrific incident, a journalist was attacked on Monday night while trying to save an unknown woman.
The journalist, Afnur Ali, who works for a local electronic media company, witnessed a nurse of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) being attacked with a sharp weapon in the Hospital premise at around 7.30 pm on Monday.
Ali, in a bid to rescue the woman, whom he perceived to be in trouble, charge at the man, who proceeded to attack the journalist with his dagger, making multiple cuts on his face.
Speaking to media, superintendent of the hospital said, “The nurse who is known to be Pauli Chetia was about to leave hospital after her shift when the accused was waiting for her. He then hauled at her trying to attacking Chetia.”
“Afnur Ali who came to pick his wife, who works at the same department as Chetia, saw the incident and rushed to help the nurse and in the process he was also attacked by the accused,” the official further added.
Ali faced multiple injuries in the unprecedented attack and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition along with the nurse.
The attacker, identified as Pankaj Baishya who is an employee of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), was nabbed by the police and interrogations are underway.
An FIR has been filed against the accused by the hospital authorities, informed the official.
