Guwahati: In view of the alarming rise in number of road accidents and fatalities in Kamrup (Metro), an urgent meeting of Department related standing committees (DRSC) was held in city on Monday.
The meeting was presided by deputy commissioner Biswajeet Pegu and chairman of DRSC Kamrup (M) and was attended by other dignitaries.
Pegu directed the road accidents and transport authority (RTA) to conduct a survey on E-rickshaw routes to be fixed and asked to complete the process within 15 days.
The district transport officer of Kamrup (M) urged the secretary, RTA to jointly conduct the survey with traffic, Gauhati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and Enforcement for finding out new routes to enhance last mile connectivity.
Moreover, the DTO has also urged Excise, Traffice and Health departments for joint drives to be condected to check drunken driving in view of the upcoming festive season.
A crash investigation team has been formed which shall visit the highly accident prone spots and report within 15 days to the Chairman with suggestive measures.
Chairman of DRSC, Kamrup (M) has also directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to survey the non functional lights on the National Highway (NH) and to install working solar blinkers on every intersection/junctions on the NH.
NHAI was also directed to provide ambulances at proper locations in the highway to make it reachable to the accident victims within the golden hour.
The DC directed NHAI to clean up the dust and sand left from the constructions of the road to prevent accident due to skidding in the NH.
DRSC, Kamrup (M) resolved to acquire the Integrated for Accident Reporting as per NoRTH format. It will also install Radar based Speed Enforcement Camera at multiple locations and the report may be submitted by the next 15 days.
