Assam: Leopard hurts 13 in Jorhat, tranquilized after 24 hours

Guwahati: A wild leopard was caught in Assam’s Jorhat district on Tuesday morning after it created fear amongst the residents of the area.

The forest department after continuous efforts over the past 24 hours caught the leopard, which was creating terror and injuring many people in an attack.

As per the official, the leopard was injured while being tranquilized, and as a result, he will undergo a medical examination. However, after a medical examination, the forest official will take a decision regarding the leopard, said sources.

Meanwhile, the leopard has been taken to Regional Forest Officer’s Office, and later it will be taken to Kaziranga.

On Monday, at least thirteen people, including three forest personnel, were injured in a leopard attack in the Jorhat district. According to the forest officials, the incident took place around Rain Forest Research Institute (ICFRE) located at Chenijan. The leopard came out of a forest located within the institute and started attacking people without provocation, they said.

The victims of the encounter with the leopard were rushed to the hospital where they underwent treatment. According to reports, no fatalities were reported due to the attack by the leopard.
