Assam Liquor Firms To Make 5 Cr Bottles Of Hand Sanitizers, Supply Free Of Cost

Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands, WHO recommended

Five lakh litres of sanitisers will be supplied to the Assam health department free of cost to fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis in the state. The decision is based on a directive by Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya.

The liquor manufacturing factories in the state will now produce hand sanitisers and supply the same to the health department free of cost.

“More than 5 lakh litres of hand sanitizers will be supplied free of cost as part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities by liquor companies of Assam. As per the demand of health department, around 5 crore bottles of 200 ml sanitizers are required which will be supplied free by the excise factories of Assam,” said Suklabaidya.

The Excise Minister informed that the hand sanitizers will be produced according to the guidelines set up by the World Health Organization (WHO), Essential Commodities Act and Drugs & Cosmetics Act,1940.

“The main objective of this innovative approach is to curb the menace of fake sanitizers and black marketing by some evil traders of the state,” he added.

Suklabaidya further shared that the Excise department has taken steps to make available sanitizers to Manipur and Nagaland as well by its manufacturing units. “Till now 11 companies have started producing the sanitizers in Assam,” he added.

The WHO has advised to regularly and thoroughly clean hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands, WHO recommended.

Following the outbreak of the virus in the country, the hand sanitizer has turned in to a highly prized possession overnight.
