Guwahati: When the whole country is talking about freedom of speech and reporting of a journalist after Arnab Goswami’s episode, in yet another unprecedented incident, a local scribe of a regional daily was allegedly beaten up by miscreants for reporting on gambling activities in Mirza, Assam.

According to reports, the journalist named Milan Mahanta was shopping at a local market when a man named ‘Sanjay Thakuria’ confronted Mahanta with few other men and started abusing him for reporting on illegal gambling activities.

He was subsequently dragged, tied to and light post and thrashed.

The journo was later rescued after large crowds gathered around the incident that unshackled him and took him to a nearby pharmacy to get him checked.

The miscreants threatened the journalist and managed to flee the scene later.

A complaint has been filed by Mahanta at Palashbari police station soon after and an investigation is underway.

It may be mentioned here that, the incident occurred days after another journalist, Parag Bhuyan, was killed in an alleged hit-and-run case in Kakopathar town of Tinsukia.
