Assam logs highest single-day Covid spike of 8,339 cases, 15 deaths

Guwahati: Assam reported 8,339 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest single-day increase for the third day in a row, bringing the total to 6,70,128.

On Tuesday, 15 more people died as a result of the disease, taking the death toll to 6,248.

Currently, the number of active COVID-19 cases is 35,161.

The new cases were found from 64,699 sample tests conducted on Wednesday, with a positivity rate of 12.89 percent.

The Kamrup Metropolitan, which includes Guwahati city had 1,929 new cases.

Dibrugarh confirmed 513 new cases on Wednesday, Jorhat 414 and Cachar 396, according to the state health ministry.

The death rate in the state currently is 0.93 per cent, while the number of COVID-19 positive patients dying due to other reasons is 1,347.
