Guwahati: Delhi police arrested a man from Assam for offering ‘Namaz’ while standing on the national flag inside the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The incident happened on May 8 and the man, Mohammad Tariq Aziz, was released on bail the same day.

“Mohammad Tariq Aziz, a resident of Assam, arrived from Dubai on flight 6E24 and was scheduled to fly to Dimapur on Indigo flight 6E598, but he stood on the Indian national flag between de-boarding gates 1 and 3 and prayed. His activities were found suspicious and undesirable. He has disrespected the national flag,” the police said in the complaint.

Aziz was first detained by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who manage security at airports across the country, and later handed over to the Delhi Police.

Delhi Police later registered a case under the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, This is a bailable offence.
