Guwahati: A person was allegedly beaten to death by a group of miscreants over a land dispute in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Friday night.

The incident took place in the Zorgorh Chariali area in Tezpur in the district.

As per sources, around seven people surrounded the victim in the Zorgorh Chariali area and beat him up before fleeing from the spot.

It is suspected that the man was allegedly killed over a property dispute, sources said.

The deceased has been identified as Habibur Rahman.

After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the family members have claimed that the leader of Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), identified as Jiabur Rahman, was behind the murder.

However, no arrests have been made so far. Further investigation is underway.

On March 11, in a similar incident too, a seven-year-old was killed on the street of Assam’s Silchar by a 30-year-old man, who had a land dispute with the members of the victim’s family.

According to the official, the man also injured the victim’s mother. The accused has been arrested by the police after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
