Assam Man Warns Of Miscreants Running ‘Racket’ On Guwahati-Shillong Road To Harass Commuters

Guwahati, April 20, 2019

A man from Guwahati has alleged that a few miscreants have been “deliberately” attempting to “harass” commuters along the Guwahati-Shillong road by spilling fuel or other lubricant oil along the highway.

As per the person identified as Abdul Hannan, he along with his family were en route Shillong via the Guwahati-Shillong Road on April 15th 2019. While taking a U-turn, their vehicle skidded off the road leaving his wife with minor injuries.

A video of the incident posted on Hannan’s Facebook timeline on April 15th 2019 has gone viral on the social media platforms. In the video, Hannan has alleged that “some miscreants are deliberately spilling mobil or other lubricants like oil on the roads to harass the commuters and are running a racket to tow cars demanding exorbitant prices”.

Hannan was accompanied by his wife, eight-year-old child. The accident took place near Barapani. As per Hannan, as soon as an accident takes place, some private crane dealers appear on the spot to tow the vehicles demanding “sky-rocketing prices”.

“Although the police had arrived, there was a separate crane dealer appearing out of nowhere and asked us to hire them and charged us with Rs 5,000. After an argument, they finally agreed to tow the car for Rs 1,500,” said Hannan.

Sharing the incident, Hannan further added, “The incident is extremely unfortunate as they are playing with the lives of people for a few bucks. This should stop and the Assam government should take up the matter with its counterpart and solve the issue.”

Meanwhile, Hannan said that after he shared the incident on Facebook, a number of commuters came forward with their own stories similar to his while travelling Shillong.
