Assam: Massive COVID vax drive starts; 45+ to be inoculated
Guwahati: Citizens of the state aged 45 years and above will start receiving COVID-19 vaccination starting Thursday under a massive vaccination drive started by the Assam health department.
The vaccine will be provided in every health sub-centers in villages to districts and private hospitals to resist the fresh threat of virus infection.
Reportedly, the vaccination drive targets specific groups like tea garden workers, who have been perceived to be vulnerable to infectious disease.
Moreover, the time interval between two doses of the Covishield vaccine has been extended to 4 to 8 weeks from the present 4 to 6 weeks.
The free COVID vaccination centre includes Medical Colleges, District Hospitals, Sub-divisional Hospitals, Community Health Centres, Model Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, Health and Wellness Centres.
Assam has recorded 49 new cases on Wednesday out of 12,966 COVID-19 tests conducted in the past 24 hours since yesterday.
Out of the fresh cases, 26 are from Kamrup Metro, 7 from Nagaon, 3 from Kamrup Rural, 3 from Sivasagar, and one each from Nalbaria and Sonitpur.
Total active cases in the state stand at 515 with one death reported taking the death percentage to 0.51% and positivity rate to 0.38%.
The state till date has reported 2,18,412 positive cases and 1,347 deaths related to Coronavirus
