Guwahati: In a tragic incident, Vijaya Naik, wife of Union Minister Shripad Naik died after their vehicle met with an accident in Karnataka on Monday night.
They were on their way to Gokarna from Yellapur when the accident took place in Ankola Taluk of Uttar Kannada district.
Along with the minister’s wife, his personal secretary, Deepak, was also killed in the accident.
Reportedly, the minister, who is being treated at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, is currently out of danger.
After the accident, the vehicle in which they were travelling badly damaged and was found in a mangled state among trees and bushes.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal took Twitter to offer his condolences to the minister’s wife death and also wished for speedy recovery of the union minister.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, finance minister, also offered his condolence to Vijaya Naik. He wrote, “It s deeply painful to learn about the demise of Bijaya naik ji, wife of union Minister Sri @shripadynaik. My heartfelt condolences. Prayers for speedy recovery of Hon Minister.”
Shripad Naik is the union minister of state (independent charge) in the ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) and ministry of state for defence.
He is member from North Goa constituency, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party.
