GUWAHATI: Assam Excise, Forests and Environment and Fisheries Parimal Suklabaidya rushed to Lailapur area situated along the Assam-Mizoram border where several houses of the people of Assam were burnt down on Saturday night in an incident of suspected Mizo aggression that fueled in interstate border tensions.
The minister after taking stock of the situation ordered a high-level enquiry into this untoward incident.
He also held multiple rounds of talks with the locals to have an extensive overview of the situation and has directed Cachar police and district administration to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Tension grew in Assam – Mizoram bordering Lailapur area in Cachar district as miscreants suspected hailing from neighbouring state of Mizoram set several houses and temporary shops on fire.
The incident reportedly happened on Saturday night after top police officials visited the fringe areas.
Local in the village said, “There was a group of around 10-12 people from Mizoram side who committed the crime. The village has been targeted by these miscreants for almost two weeks now.”
