Guwahati: Ahead of the second phase of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in Assam, Police detained Lok Sabha MP and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) president Naba Kumar Sarania late on Tuesday night after electoral violence occurred at Salakati in Kokrajhar district.
Allegations have risen of MP Naba Sarania distributing money to the voters.
It is known that, miscreants attacked Naba Sarania and his supporters and they were gheraoed by some unknown people.
Later police reached the spot and brought Sarania and his supporters to Salakati outpost and later shifted to Kokrajhar police station.
Following the detention of Sarania along with his supporters, chaos erupted in the area and also damaged the vehicle of the Officer in-charge of the Salakati police outpost.
Nearly after eight hours, on Wednesday morning Naba Kumar Sarania has been released on bail from Kokrajhar Police station.
However, a case has been registered against the MP at Kokrajhar police station; under case no 143/171C, 177A.
Meanwhile, the MP denied allegation labelled against him. Speaking to the media, Sarania said that it was a conspiracy against him since his GSP party is winning seats in the ongoing BTC council elections.
