Assam: Mystery donor gives 40 tola gold to Batadrava than
Guwahati: In a mystery, over 460 grams of gold were found in a donation box ofthe historic Batadrava Than (vaishnavite monastery) in Bordowa in Nagaon district of Assam.
As per the authority of the religious place, around 40 tola of gold in shape of biscuits were found inside a bag inside the donation box. There was a message in the bag by the donor but no name of the donor was mentioned in the message.
“In the message the donor has requested the Than authority to use them in the Kirtanghar of Srimanta Sankardev. The anonymous donor has shown a great gesture. The gold will be worth around Rs 20 lakh,” said priests of Batadrava Than.
The Batadrava Than is one of the best known Thans founded by Srimanta Sankaradev who set up the first ever Kirtanghar here in 1468.
In 2020, the state government earmarked a fund of Rs 155 Crore for its ambitious project to develop Batadrava, the birth place of Srimanta Sanakardev, as an ideal place of religious and cultural tourism.
The state government wants to develop it like the famous Golden temple of Amritsar.
