Assam: Nagaon firing incident probe begins; Adl CS meets victim Kirti Kamal Bora

Guwahati: State’s additional chief secretary Pawan Borthakur who is probing the Kirti Kamal Bora shooting case of Nagaon met the latter at the Guwahati Medical College Hosptial (GMCH) on Wednesday to record his statement.

The additional chief secretary said that the probe aimed to unearth the circumstances leading to the shooting incident.

He is slated to meet the eye witnesses and locals from Nagaon’s Kachalukhua on Thursday.

Bora who was tested Covid19 positive after getting admitted to GMCH, was reportedly turned Covid19 negative on Wednesday leading to Borthakur’s visit.

Earlier, state government directed Borthakur to probe the entire incident and fixed accountability on ‘erring’ police officials if any.

On Saturday, Bora who is a student leader was injured after he was shot by a police team accusing him of being involved in illegal activities.

Bora, however, denied the charges. Huge uproar erupted following the incident.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Police’s duty is to counter any illegal activities. And in the Nagaon incident, if any policeman has committed mistake then he would face action too.”

Earlier, police claimed that they had to resort to firing when Bora allegedly attacked them.
