Guwahati: Acclaimed musician and one of the most revolutionaru cultural personalities of Assam, Kula Barua passed away on Thursday midnight. He was 83.
Barua was suffering from high blood pressure and passed away at his residence in Silpukhuri, Guwahati.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief over the demise of the noted musician of the state.
A well known musician of his times, Kula Barua was widely recognised as a regular artist of All India Radiofrom where he began his music career after performing at the ‘Semoniar Sora’ programme.
Barua also lent his voice to several Assamese films, such as, Bristi, Srimoti Mohimamoyi, Xadori, Bixexerati, Probhatipokhirgan, Bonohonxo, and Xendurare.
The veteran aslo worked as a music director when he collaborated with Atul Medhi for two films – Srimoti Mohimamoyi and Xadori.
Borin in Guwhaati in the year 1938to the late Premadhar Barua and late Lily Barua, the musician didi his initial schooling in Tezpur and later studied in the Cotton Collegiate of Guwahati.
He finally graduated from the B Barooah College in Guwahati.
