The final version of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam will be published today at 10 am. This particular NRC will include the names of all those who have been able to prove their citizenship. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on August 30th, 2019 said that non-inclusion in the NRC doesn’t make one foreigner. The exclusion list will be available online and at the NRC Seva Kendras(NSK). The excluded will be able to appeal to the Foreigners’ Tribunal (FT). One may visit www.nrcassam.nic.in
The government has made elaborate security arrangements across the state and the administration has also imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (Cr PC) in sensitive areas of the 14 districts of the state.
Besides Assam Police personnel, there are 167 companies of CRPF, BSF, ITBP and other paramilitary forces deployed in the state. Over fifty additional companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been sent to Assam in order to ensure peace and harmony in the state in the state on the D-Day.
A complete draft of the NRC, containing names of 28,983,677 out of 32,991,384 applicants, was published on July 30 last year. Over 40 lakh people were left out from the draft NRC and nearly 36 lakh people have filed claims for inclusion of their names in the final NRC.

The hard copies of the Supplementary List of Inclusions will be available for public view at NRC Seva Kendras (NSK), offices of the Deputy Commissioner and offices of the Circle Officer during office hours from August 31st, 2019. The status of both inclusion and exclusion can be viewed online on the NRC website (www.nrcassam.nic.in). Any person who is not satisfied with the outcome of the claims and objections can file an appeal before the Foreigners Tribunals.
