Assam: One killed, Six injured in road accident near Kaziranga

Guwahati: At least one person was killed and six others including a child were severely injured in a tragic accident near Kaziranga National Park on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred when the vehicle carrying the group of people who was travelling for a marriage purpose collided head on with a speeding truck on the highway near Burapahar range of the park.

Eye witnesses said that the vehicle smashed with the truck while trying to overtake another vehicle. The four wheeler vehicle immediate caught fire.

“Though locals rushed the injured persons to Jokholabondha health centre, one person was declared dead. Others were seriously injured and were taken to Tezpur medical college hospital,” said locals.

The deceased was identified as one Chandan Basak, the driver of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Gautam Bora, a journalist who was on his way to cover the incident also met with an accident and was seriously injured, sources said. Bora was rushed to Guwahati for treatment.
