Guwahati: Assam police arrested another poacher along with a handgun and a sharp weapon in the Chirang district on Thursday.

As per sources, based on specific inputs, the police team launched a joint operation with forest personnel near the India-Bhutan border.

However, following the operation, police arrested the accused poacher and recovered a handgun, a sharp weapon, and a bag from his possession.

The arrested individual has been identified as Chakra Brahma.

According to sources, Brahma was accompanied by another member who managed to flee the scene.

Last week, two wanted rhino poachers, identified as Abdul Matin alias Kala and Ataur Rahman alias Bassa were arrested by state police. The sources stated that Matin was the main criminal behind January 2022 rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park. Rifles and ammunition were also recovered from his possession. Meanwhile, on Monday, Bassa was injured after the police opened fire at him while he was escaping police custody at Sadaru in Biswanath Chariali.
