Guwahati: At least four youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting employees of a newspaper organisation in Silchar town of Cachar district.

The incident took place on Saturday when the newspaper workers were returning home from their night-long duties.

Based on the victim’s complaint, police have registered a first information report (FIR) according to which the four accused initially attacked him and snatched his mobile phone and other belongings.

Following the complaint, police arrested four youths and have been identified as Pritam Sutradhar (21), Rupak Sutradhar (23), Akash Roy (19) and Jeet Bhattacharjee (22), all residents of Silchar town.
The police also seized mobile phones.

According to an official, four persons were arrested for assaulting employees of the local newspaper.

The accused youths also looted cash and a mobile phone, officials said.

The lawful action is underway against the culprits, officials said.

In another incident, as many as four youths have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement in the moral policing incident in the Salbari in Baksa district.

On Sunday, two youths, identified as Sattar Ali and Zul Hussain arrested by the police from Salbari’s Lawdanguri area. While, two youths were identified as Moinal Haque and Bulbul were arrested on Saturday.

Moinal is a reporter working for a web portal.

The incident took place on April 28, when a young woman was beaten up by a group of young men at Dumuni Ghat. The victim woman, a resident of Kajiamati village in the district, was subjected to physical assault for reasons that have not yet come to light.
