Assam Police continue to dig out Arms and Ammo in BTC

GUWAHATI: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) continued to be a virtual storehouse of illegal arms and ammunition as state police have been constantly finding concealed arms and ammunition from various parts of the region.

On Wednesday too, Assam Police have recovered one AK series rifle with two numbers of magazines and 26 rounds of live ammunition of 7.62 mm pistol from north of Kumarsali village under Bijni police station.

Earlier, on December 30 too, police have recovered two AK47 with one magazine and nine rounds of ammunition and two numbers of grenades from the forest areas of Bishmuri under Kokrajhar police station.

Assam Police continue to dig out Arms and Ammo in BTC : Though the latest recoveries were made after the BTC polls, prior to the polls Assam Police in a joint operation with Army, SSB and CRPF had recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, explosives from Akshiguri in Ripu Reserve Forest of Kokrajhar district, some 48 hours before the BTC polls.

The recoveries included firearms both country made and sophisticated, explosives, grenades, over 160 rounds of ammunition as well as petrol bombs.

All the arms and ammunition in these cases were found buried in jungles. No arrests were made so far in connection with the cases.
