Guwahati: Leaving no stone unturned, the Assam police launched a major operation in the sensational Kokrajhar incident, where the two tribal minor girls were allegedly gang-raped and murdered at Abhaykhuti last Friday.
Assam police carried out the investigation scientifically & professionally and on pursuing the clues, finally, seven accused were identified & arrested.
Of the seven accused, three confessed to being involved in gang rape and murder directly.
The three main accused who were directly involved in the incident were identified as Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh and Farouk Rahman.
Informing about the development, DGP Assam Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta took to Twitter saying, “Further follow-up is being done to take the case to a Fast Track court for quicker delivery of justice.”
Meanwhile, Assam police have booked all the culprits under section 376, 376A, 376D, 376DA, section 6 POCSO Act, section 31W of SC/ST Act, section 3 and 5 of SC/ST act.
Praising the Assam police department, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter saying, “Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh and Farouk Rahman arrested for rape and murder of 2 tribal minor girls in Kokrajhar dist.The heinous crime was allegedly committed with the girls first choked to death & their bodies hanged in a tree to hoodwink. @assampolice did a commendable job.”
It is noteworthy to mention that the horrific incident shook the conscience of the state. Cry for justice for the innocent victims grew louder by the day.
Earlier, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met the family of the victims and instructed Assam Police to do an expeditious investigation to unearth the cause of the death. He also said that stringent action will be taken if any foul play is found.
The minister strictly asserted that women safety shall always remain top priority of Assam government. Atrocity in any form against poor too shall not be tolerated.
On his visit to the house of the victims, CM Sarma was accompanied by BTC chief Pramod Boro and Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary.
