Guwahati: Assam Police destroyed a huge amount of drugs worth over Rs 2 crore in the Biswanath district on Saturday.
In front of top police and district administration officials, 56.70 kg of ganja, 500 grams of heroin, bottles of cough syrup and tablets were reportedly destroyed, said official.
The drugs were destroyed in accordance with the court’s directive and the drugs disposal committee’s order, official added.
On June 11, Assam police arrested the driver of a goods carrier after recovering 1480 kg of Ganja from it.
In Assam’s Morigaon district in April, police apprehended three people and seized drugs worth over Rs 3 crore.
The Kokrajhar Police set up a special programme in February of this year to destroy the drugs and psychotropic substances that had been seized, including 33 tablet packets and 1477 kg of marijuana and 1.28 kg of heroin.
In the presence of Special DGP L R Bishnoi, Superintendent of Police, the police destroyed drugs which was seized since 2018 from different parts of the Kokrajhar district and set to fire.
