Guwahati: Assam police on Saturday have submitted a chargesheet in the Batadrava police station arson case. The Nagaon police who were probing the case have named at least 24 people including two juveniles.

The accused also included some 11 women. Out of all the accused named in the charge sheet 11 were arrested, including two juveniles. The remaining 13 were still on the run.

Nagaon police superintendent (SP) Leena Doley told media that the chargesheet was filed before the stipulated time frame of 90 days.

She added that police have also requested to try the case in a fast track court for speedy justice.

On May 21, Batadrava police station was set on fire by an irate mob over an alleged custodial death of a local fish trader, Safikul Islam (39), who was picked up by police the previous night.
