Guwahati: Assam police seized 31 dogs from Kuruwabahi in Bokakhat, Golaghat district on Friday.

According to sources, the dogs belong to the domestic breed usually found on the streets found from the roadside inside sacks, with their legs and mouths tied and only the heads sticking out.

As per the source, it is suspected that dog smugglers were taking the dogs to Nagaland.

An investigation has been launched by Bokaghat police.

However, the police are yet to investigate where the dogs have been brought and who was behind the smuggling.

Despite the fact that it is against Indian law to kill and eat dogs, this practice persists in Nagaland and other Northeastern states where dog meat is valued for its great nutritional and medicinal benefits.
