GUWAHATI: The Azara Police in Kamrup on Wednesday detained one Neel Nakhatra Das, a student, on charges of allegedly appointing a ‘proxy’ candidate to appear in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains.

An FIR was lodged with the Azara Police against him for allegedly using a proxy to sit in the examination on his behalf. The examination was held on September 5.

The investigation began after an audio clipping went viral in which the accused candidate had admitted to using a ‘proxy’ to successfully scoring 99.8% marks.

In the audio clip, the candidate also was found saying that the invigilator of the examination centre had helped him to get out of the centre after writing his roll number on the answer sheet and signature, which was later filled up by his proxy somewhere else.

Police said that they have received a complaint from one Mitradev Sharma on October 23. Police have also sealed the examination centre and the management has been summoned.

“We are also reaching out to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and sought data related to the JEE Mains,” police said.
