Special Court in Assam convicted a police officer on draft charges and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years on Monday.
The accused Bhatta was arrested along with Constable Dinesh Upadhai by officials of vigilance and anti-corruption in 2015 for demanding and accepting bribe amounting to Rs 70K.
However, as there was no material on record against accused constable, he was acquitted of the charge.
Bhatta was also convicted under section 7 of PC Act and was sentenced to undergo RI for period of three years. Both the sentence will run concurrently, Court ordered.
