Assam Police seizes drugs worth Rs 4 crore in Kamrup district, 5 held

Guwahati: Kamrup Police seized a huge quantity of drugs worth Rs 4 crore in the Assam’s Kamrup district on Saturday.

Atleast five peddlers were arrested by police in this connection.

The arrested drug peddlers identified as Ali Ahmed, Md. Mohammad Khan, Baharul Alom, Najimul Miah and Jiyadul Islam.

Based on specific information, a police team led by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police launched an operation at Azara area, as a result recovered 50,000 ‘World Is Yours’ tablets.

“The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs 4 crore”, Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.

According to sources, police seized the drugs from hotel in Azara while it was being smuggled to Bangladesh from Manipur.

Further investigation is underway.

Previous month, Assam police seized around 1480 kg ganja from a goods carrier coming from a neighbouring state at Churaibari WP, Karimganj.
