Assam Police to take strict legal action for flouting COVID-19 rules
Guwahati: Amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in the state, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Sunday said that strict legal actions would be taken for people who flout COVID-19 rules.
Mahanta also requested the citizens of the state to adhere to the COVID protocols as non-adherence to the guidelines will only make the situation worse.
The Assam DGP also requested the Bihu committees to strictly follow COVID protocols and wind up before 11 PM without fail.
Taking to Facebook Mahanta wrote, “The second wave of COVID 19 puts all of us in a very precious situation and it is getting serious day by day. Non-adherence to Covid protocols, Public gatherings etc. will only make the situation worse. Assam Police will do anything to safeguard the people of Assam from this calamity. So from today onwards we appeal all the BIHU Celebration committees of Assam to strictly follow COVID Protocols and wind up before 11PM without fail. No Excuses. From tonight strict legal action will be taken to save human lives. We thank all those Bihu Committees who are adhering to the timelines and other COVID protocols.”
Meanwhile, Assam on Sunday has reported 639 fresh cases of COVID-19, pushing the active cases to 5,268. The overall tally of the state reached 2,24,455.
Also, six deaths were reported in the past 24 hours from Kamrup Metro, Barpeta, Cachar, Dhemaji, Morigaon and Tinsukia.
