Assam Polls: 400 Companies of SFs Deployed for Phase II Polls Tomorrow
GUWAHATI: Around 400 companies of security companies have been deployed for the second phase of Assam assembly polls, said Nitin Khade, chief electoral officer (CEO), Assam on Wednesday.
Out of them at least 310 companies of security forces were from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Special Armed Police (SAP).
“In addition to it, 90 state police companies were also earmarked for the poll duties in the second phase on Thursday,” Khade said.
At least 27 companies of security personnel were earmarked for strong room and other duties. Voting would take place in 5,315 polling stations in Phase II.
Besides, to maintain security in the bordering areas of the districts which would go to polls on April 1, Assam police have also conducted at least 42 interstate border meetings with its counterparts in the neighbouring states already. Besides, some 44 inter-agency meetings were also conducted to ensure law and order situation.
State police nodal officer Deepak Kedia told the media, “Since the model code of conduct (MCC) came in force, state police have seized at least 50 illegal arms, 877 rounds of ammunition, 12 magazines, one kilo of explosive, one grenade and two crude bombs. Assam police is on its effort to ensure free and fearless elections.”
After the MCC came into force on February 26 in view of the ongoing general election to the Assam legislative assembly, cash and other valuables worth Rs. 110.83 crores have been seized so far.
Thesecash, valuables and illegally transported liquor were seized from various parts of the state in search operations carried out by Assam Police, Flying Squads, Static Surveillance Team, Excise and other enforcement and regulatory agencies of the state.
Till now, seizure of drugs and narcotics worth Rs. 34.29 crores, more than 16.61 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs. 33.44 crores, cash amounting Rs. 24.50 crores, gold, silver jewelry, gold bars worth Rs. 3.68 crores and freebies/other items worth Rs. 14.91 crores have been made.
On seizure, operations carried out by Static Surveillance Team and Flying Squads, drugs worth Rs. 33.79 crore included- Heroin (4,226.81gm), Tablet (1,74,088 Nos.), Crystalline Methamphetamine (10.27 kg), Capsule (1,22,100 Nos.), Ganja ( 6,892.82 kg), Morphin (1000 gms) and Brown Sugar (252.85 gm).
So far, 50 police cases have been registered across the state related to expenditure violation and 5,234 FIR’s lodged related to excise law violation.
