Assam Polls: Around 10.52% turnout till 9:30 am in second phase
Guwahati: An estimated 10.52% of the total 7.44 lakhs electors exercised their franchise till 9:30 am in 39 constituencies of Assam where polling is underway with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols in phase 2 of Assam Polls on Thursday.
The Diphu constituency in the state has witnessed the highest voting percentage with a voter turnout of 17.20% till 9.20 am, while the Marigaon and Laharighat constituencies witnessed the lowest voting percentage with a voter turnout of just 6% each.
So far, the voting process is being conducted peacefully which began at 7 am in the morning and will culminate at 6 pm.
Over 42,000 polling personnel have already been deployed for the second phase of assembly elections.
Hojai constituency has the highest number of voters at 2,65,886, while, Howraghat which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes has the lowest at 1,32,339.
While 25 constituencies will witness direct contest between the NDA and the Grand Alliance, the remaining seats will have a triangular contest.
3 Assam Ministers – Parimal Suklabaidya, Piyush Hazarika, and Bhabesh Kalita are in fray in the second phase of Assam Assembly elections.
The voting is being held on 8,998 polling stations and 556 of them are all-women polling stations.
A total of 345 candidates in 39 constituencies across 13 districts are in the fray in this phase of voting.
Polling for the third and last phase will be held on April 6. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
