Assam Polls: Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah replaced late Assam CM Tarun Gogoi from Titabor
Guwahati: The much-awaited decision over fielding a candidate replacing late Tarun Gogoi from the Titabor constituency finally came to a halt after several rounds of discussions.
The Assam Congress party has finalized its candidate Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah as a major replacement to late Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi from the Titabor constituency.
On Sunday night, Assam Congress released a list of three more candidates for the Phase-I elections.
The other two candidates from Naoboicha and Dhakuakhana (ST) constituencies are Bharat Ch Narah and Padma Lochan Doley respectively.
Notably, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) was quite uncertain over fielding its candidate for the Titabor constituency till Sunday as the replacement of former Assam Chief Minister and late Congress leader CM Tarun Gogoi remains to be their major challenge.
MP Gaurav Gogoi’s name was doing the rounds as the candidate from Titabor constituency ever since his father and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi passed away in December last year.
Earlier, speaking to TIME8, APCC spokesperson, Rhituparna Konwar said, “Replacement of former CM Tarun Gogoi is impossible. However, the screening committee will get it resolved soon. The final call will be made the by committee.”
